Speaking on the French channel ARTE, international relations specialist Öznur Küçüker Sirene explained to French journalists targeting Türkiye, with striking examples, why the United States and the EU are not credible on “human rights”.
On a live broadcast on the French channel ARTE, international relations specialist Öznur Küçüker Sirene responded with striking examples to French journalists who attempted to criticise Türkiye over “human rights”.
“We do not like constantly being lectured on human rights by the U.S. and the EU. They are not credible at all. And why is that?” Sirene asked, and continued:
Take the example of the United States. You have seen what this country did to prisoners in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Guantanamo prison. And there is also a very recent example.
The situation of Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, currently detained in the United Kingdom. If extradited to the U.S., Assange faces up to 175 years in prison.
There is also another very important issue: the FETÖ question. Fetullah Gülen is the ringleader of the Fetullahist Terrorist Organisation behind the July 15, 2016 coup attempt.
Evidence that Gülen is a terrorist has been submitted to the U.S., and even though the U.S. has received this evidence, it uses the legal process as a pretext against Gülen’s extradition to Türkiye.
Yet today it demands the release of Osman Kavala. This is a deeply contradictory position.”
